Strategy and Analysis to Defend and Transform Public Education
Deirdre Snyder has some questions about the TA. Maybe you do too. Like…
What happened to the double-digit raise?
It disappeared! We’re being offered 8% but really that’s more like 5.5% because we will be working longer hours… or rather, they will be controlling more of the hours we work.
Why are we getting Chromebooks instead of a raise? Maybe they misheard us?
Why won’t the District promise hard-caps on Special Ed?
Don’t know that one either. But the language suggests that there will be lots of movement between classes to adjust because we just can’t hire enough teachers at these wages and conditions… and the last last thing our kids need is being shuffled around.
Why have they gutted Article 12? Why did the District insist on taking away all seniority rights in transfers? Are they planning on having lots of transfers? Sure looks like they are setting this up so that they can move teachers almost at will (their will.) We already have a huge turnover problema. Do we need to exacerbate it?
WE CAN GET A BETTER CONTRACT
It’s kinda hard to imagine much worse
What happens if we vote NO on this one? Then we go back to the bargaining table, and with the rejection of the TA, a 94% strike authorization vote and some new blood on the Executive Board, we are in a stronger position. If they don’t move, we declare impasse. It goes to fact-finding, mediation…
WE NEED A TEACHER STABILITY CONTRACT –
NOT A TEACHER TURNOVER CONTRACT
There is plenty of money just in! It needs to go on our salary schedule, not to consultants
Smaller class size means one on one attention by a human being- not a computer screen
I’M VOTING NO ON THE TA on JUNE 3
